Mr. Zhang Peilin, a famous expert of physical metallurgy, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the ex-president of Chinese Nuclear Materials Society, the senior consultant of the Committee for Science and Technology of the CNNC passed away of illness at Beijing on Sept. 15.

A funeral ceremony to his remains was held at Babaoshan cemetery on the morning of Sept. 23. The State’s leaders, Mr. Hu Jingtao, Mr. Wu Bangguo, Mr. Li Chuangchun , Mr. Zhu Rongji, etc. sent messages and wreathes separately to extend their heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased.

Mr. Zhang Peilin was born on December 1917, died on Sept. 2005. He was the first man and an exploiter in the area of science and technology for nuclear material metallurgy and nuclear fuel assembly in China. He had organized, led and conducted a number of research & manufacture works for many types of reactor materials, fuel elements and assemblies, for large production reactor, high flux engineering testing reactor, submarine nuclear power reactor, Qinshan NPP, etc., and solved a lot of key technical problems. He made an important contribution for research and manufacture of nuclear fuel assembly and for nuclear materials production in our country.
