The Sino-US joint demonstration of integrated management technology on nuclear materials ended successfully at Beijing on Oct. 28. This joint demonstration is sponsored by CAEA and US DOE, and undertaken by China Institute of Atomic Energy. It lasted five days.

Mr. Sun Qing, Vice Minister of COSTIND and Chairman of CAEA and Mr. Linton Brooks, Under Secretary of US DOE and Administrator of NNSA attended the opening ceremony of this joint demonstration. This demonstration was an important action under the outline agreement of Sino-US nuclear technology cooperation. It demonstrated advanced equipment and techniques on nuclear material control and physical protection, meanwhile a series of seminars were conducted. On the demonstration, the relevant officials and professionals from both sides made a wide exchange for policy, regulation, new conception, new technology and equipment about nuclear non-proliferation, nuclear material control and physical protection.

On Oct. 1997, the China and US government signed an outline cooperation agreement for peaceful use nuclear technology. After the summit meeting on Sept. 2005, both sides unanimously agreed to promote bilateral constructive cooperation, to enhance mutual dialogue and collaboration on important fields and issues including anti-terrorism, non-proliferation, affairs in UN and Asia-Pacific region, etc.
