The fifth technical seminar for civil nuclear power on cross-straits was held at Taibei on Oct. 30. This seminar was sponsored by the Chinese Nuclear Society and the Nuclear Science & Technology Association, and its theme was “strengthening exchange, improving nuclear safety” including three special topics of “current status and future prospect for nuclear power on cross-straits”, “operation safety and construction technique on nuclear power plant” and “radwaste treatment and public consensus”. The China National Nuclear Corporation, the China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group, Tsinghua University, etc. from mainland sent experts to attend this seminar.

Mr. Huang Guojun, the Vice-president of CNS and Vice-president of CNNC, Mr. Lin Ying, the Chairman of Nuclear Science & Technology Association made an address on opening ceremony separately. After this seminar, the CNS delegation visited the headquarters of the Taiwan Power Company, the 3rd and 4th Nuclear Power Station of TPC, Radiation Monitoring Center, TsingHua University (Xinzhu) and so on.

It is reported, the Chinese Nuclear Society held the first technical seminar for civil nuclear power on cross-straits at Beijing on March 1993. Then in Sept. 1994, the CNS delegation led by Prof. Wang Dexi visited Taiwan to promote S&T exchange.
