Major Contracts for the Extension Project of Qinshan NPP Phase II were Signed

Major contracts including construction, Installation and supervision for the extension project of Qinshan NPP Phase II were signed at Beijing on Nov. 11. It marks that construction work of this project¡¯s main body is entering implementing stage. On the signing ceremony, the Nuclear Power Qinshan JVC signed the contract of main body construction engineering with CNEC¡¯s 22nd and 24th Construction & Installation Co., the contract of main body installation with CNEC¡¯s 23rd Construction & Installation Co., Shanghai Petrochemical Installation & Repairing Co. and Zhejiang Electrical Construction Co., and the commission contract of engineering supervision with CNNC¡¯s Sida Construction Supervision Company.

It is reported, the extension project of Qinshan NPP Phase II obtained final approval from central government on Oct. 17, 2005. It is to construct two indigenous units, duplicating the 650 MWe CNP-600 units 1 & 2 there. The project¡¯s construction is expected to start on March next year, Unit 3 will put into operation on Dec. 2010 and Unit 4 will be followed 10 months later. In the aspect of indigenous production rate, the two units of 3 & 4 will reach over 70%. By comparison with unit 1 & 2, the extension project will implement ten important technical improvements including digitization of instrumentation & control system, extension fuel cycle, advanced fuel assembly, and hundreds ordinary modifications to further improve safety and economy of new units.
