The Primary Feasibility Report of the Chinese First HTGR Passed the Examination

The primary feasibility report of the Chinese first HTGR demonstrative NPP was passed through the examination and approval on Nov. 24, 2005. The demonstrative HTGR NPP will be invested by China Huaneng Corp., China Nuclear Engineering and Construction Corp. and Tsinghua University, etc. to construct and operate jointly. The site is located at Shidao Bay, Rongcheng, Weihai City, Shandong Province. The Phase I project is planned to build a 200MWe demonstrative unit, total cost will be about 3.0 billion RMB yuan, and construction period is planning for 48 months. It is expected to start construction at the end of 2006 and put into operation in 2010.

A 10MW High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTR-10) has been built successfully, and a lot of experimental works have been implemented by Tsinghua University at Beijing.
