The contract of “Nuclear Island Design and Technical Service on Ling’ao NPP Phase II Project” was signed between the Beijing Institute of Nuclear Engineering (BINE) and the Engineering Company of CGNPG at Beijing on Dec. 22. This is the first time for Chinese institute to undertake the design on large commercial nuclear power plant of 1000MW PWR as an overall contractor. It means that our country has held the design ability for large commercial nuclear power plant of 1000MW PWR on the basis of absorbing and assimilating foreign advanced technology. The CNNC’s president Kang Rixin, vice-president Wang Shoujun, the CGNPG’s chief engineer Fan Heming and other leaders attended the signing ceremony.

The BINE has participated in all of construction works for completed and ongoing nuclear power plant in China. According to the BINE’s director Le Xiaoming said, on the basis of reference to the design of Ling’ao Phase I NPP and learning the experience and lessons from Qinshan Phase II NPP, the total independence design should be realized on Ling’ao Phase II NPP’s design including site selection, overall planning/scheme, nuclear island, conventional island, BOP and so on.

The Ling’ao Phase II Project is an expansion of Ling’ao NPP to build additional two units of 1000MW PWR. This project commenced formally on Dec. 15,2005, and the first unit will be put into commercial operation in Oct. 2010.
