At 11:00 of Feb. 15, the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and the China Huadian Corporation (CHEC) signed “the Frame Agreement on Co-operative Construction of Huian Nuclear Power Project in Fujian Province ” in Beijing. As the preparing project in “the national eleventh 5-year planning”, the Huian Nuclear Power Project has been listed into the national nuclear power development plan. This signing of the cooperation agreement means that this project started formally.

By negotiation of both sides, on Huian Nuclear Power Project the CNNC will hold major stock and take the responsibility to build this NPP and to be the owner for operating this NPP, the CHEC will be the second stockholder and work in decision-making and management. Meanwhile both sides will associate actively with local enterprises in Fujian Province to promote the progress of Huian Nuclear Power Project and other nuclear power project in Fujian.

On this signing ceremony, the president Kang Rixin of the CNNC said that the CNNC associated with the CHEC to form an ally for building the Huian NPP, it means not only a continuance of our cooperative relationship but also a good beginning of long-term cooperation in energy area. Through collaboration between both sides, we must build the Huian NPP successfully.

The site of Huian NPP is located at north shore of Quanzhou Bay near the city of Huian county, Fujian Province, and can dispose 6 1000MW nuclear power units. This site is a favorable site for nuclear power plant with the advantages of geological structure is stable, the main buildings including nuclear island and conventional island can based on basic rock bedding, traffic conditions are convenient, seawater sandiness along seacoast is low and the conditions for water supply and drainage are superior.
