On Feb. 9, the State Council issued “the national medium- and long-term program for science and technology development (2006-2020)”, in which confirmed 16 specialized important S&T projects trying to get breakthrough during next 15 years. The Large size advanced PWR and high temperature gas-cooled reactor are listed into these projects.

The demonstration project for large size advanced PWR will rely on self-reliance with Sino-foreign cooperation, in order to master international advanced technology on nuclear power and develop a Chinese third-generation large PWR. Through implementation of this demonstration project, the solid foundation on standardization and construction in batches of the Chinese advanced large PWR will be established.

The demonstration project of high-temperature gas-cooled reactor is aimed to build a prototype 200MWe HGCR NPP in order to perform research/development and construct related projects to form a complete set.
