The China Tokamak HL-2A gained new experimental results

The China Tokamak HL-2A gained new experimental results: the generated plasma electric current reached 400 kA, the plasma existing time lasted 2960 ms, continuously 12 times of reiterative stable discharge of electricity on the conditions of plasma electric current of 350 kA was carried out.

¡°When fusion reactor is generating electricity, the related plasma parameters such as core temperature, pressure must arrive at certain conditions. As commonly known value, the fusion reactor core temperature must obtain over a hundred million centigrade degree¡±, the director of S&T Commission of the Southwestern Physics Institute (SWPI) of the CNNC, Mr. Yan Jiancheng said, ¡°Now the highest temperature in the core of the HL-2A has reached 20 million centigrade degree. The plasma electric current has reached 400 kA, and it set an advantageous condition to increase the core temperature¡±.

In the mid 1960s, the SWPI was set up at the suburb of Leshan City, Sichuan province and moved partially to Chengdu City, the capital of Sichuan province during mid 1980s. The SWPI is the largest experimental base for the controlled nuclear fusion and plasma physics research in China. In 1980s, a torus of China Huanliu No. 1 was built at the suburb of Leshan City. In 1990s, the SWPI set up the large Tokamak experimental device for controlled nuclear fusion research?the China Huanliu No. 1 (HL-1M) at the suburb of Chengdu City, and gained a number of research achievement for utilizing this device. Then the new-generation divertor Tokamak fusion experimental device --the China Huanliu No.2 A (HL-2A) was completed in 2002. Recently the controlled nuclear fusion by magnetic confinement has been listed into ¡°the national medium- and long-term programme for S&T development¡±.
