Sponsored by the China National Nuclear Corporation, the 58th board meeting of WANO was held in Beijing, China on April 12, 2006. Eight directors of WANO from USA, UK, France, Russia, Japan, China, etc. and WANO's regional-center headers attended this meeting. Mr. Yu Jianfeng, the assistant of general-manager of the CNNC participated in this meeting as a director of WANO.

By representing the sponsor, the president Kang Rixin of the CNNC made a speech of “the prospect of nuclear power development in China ” on the meeting. He said, through many years development, China has cumulated abundent experience on construction and management of nuclear power project, enhanced the capabilities for nuclear power equipment manufacture and fuel provision, and established integrated system for safety control, emergency response and technical support. The CNNC will do its best to ensure safe and reliable operation of the nuclear power units in operation, carry out the innovation on organization framework, focus the design and construction of the CNP1000, participate in the development of fourth generation nuclear power system and thermonuclear fusion reactor, and improve the indigenous manufacture of key components of nuclear power. Meanwhile Mr. Kang answered the question about nuclear power management, project schedule control, safety assessment and so on.

The CNNC has invited the experts of WANO to visit the Qinshan nuclear power base after this meeting.
