| State-owned utility Eskom could decide as early as 2007 whether or not to construct another nuclear power plant, according to board chair Valli Moosa. He said that plans for the new plant would be brought to the board once the feasibility study on the plant was completed. Possible sites for the plant could be in the Southern Cape, the Cape West coast or the Northern Cape coast. The government earlier said it plans to add 5000 MWe of nuclear generating capacity to its supply mix by 2023. (Ux Weekly,16/10/2006) |
