Rokkasho reprocessing plant produced first MOX mixture |
|
| Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd¡¯s (JNFL¡¯s) Rokkasho reprocessing plant produced its first mixed uranium-plutonium oxide (MOX) mixture on 2 November. The MOX was produced during final commissioning tests at the plant. JNFL has been conducting tests on the plant¡¯s ¡®uranium-plutonium co-denitration process¡¯ since 27 October and the plant is expected to start producing MOX powder in mid-November. The Rokkasho plant - which has an annual reprocessing capacity of 800 tHM - is scheduled to start commercial operation in mid-2007. Construction has not yet begun on a MOX fuel fabrication facility that JNFL plans to build adjacent to the reprocessing plant. The fuel facility is currently awaiting licence approval by the central government. (Nuclear Fuel, 6 /11/2006) |
