Hot Testing Starts At Romania¡¯s Cernavoda-2

    Hot testing is under way at unit two of Romania¡¯s Cernavoda nuclear power plant, national utility Nuclearelectrica has announced.The tests at the 655-megawatt (MW) pressurised heavy water reactor (PHWR) unit began on 10 December and are scheduled to last 16 days. Cernavoda-2 is scheduled to be connected to the grid in March 2007 and start commercial operation in the middle of 2007. Nuclearelectrica said today that the next milestone for the unit will be the loading of fuel into the reactor, which is expected to take place at the start of 2007. Fuel for the first loading was fabricated by Romania¡¯s Pitesti Fuel Plant, a subsidiary of Nuclearelectrica, in October 2006. Unit one of the Cernavoda plant, also a 655-MW PHWR, marked 10 years of commercial operation on 2 December. Meanwhile, preparatory work leading to the completion of units 3 and 4 at Cernavoda will start at the beginning of 2007. (NucNet,11/12/2006)
