On July 29, 2008, CNNC declared on the Press Conference of Changjiang Nuclear Power Project, which was held by Hainan province. The project plans to begin construction at the end of 2009, and go to business operation at the end of 2014.

    On the press conference, Mr. Fang Xiaoyu, executive vice-governor of Hainan province, introduced the main content of relative documents from National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). Mr. Li Jinying, director of department of planning of CNNC, answered questions from the media such as Xinhua, Guangming Daily, China National Radio, and Hainan TV Station. He gave a detailed introduction to the media about the safety and advantage of the nuclear power, and the strength of CNNC. He also described the future view of development of nuclear power for all listeners.

    CNNC will make a positive effort to push the development of Hainan nuclear power project, ensure the nuclear power into a good, fast-growing, and safe development in Hainan, and propel the development of the provincial economy, he said.

    In recent years, Hainan province carried out its development strategy, and the economy developed quickly. Because of the pulling effect of economy, the requirement about the electricity in Hainan increased, and the contradiction between supply and requirement of electricity rose. There was a severe influence on tourism, industry, and agriculture in Hainan. People in Hainan paid a high attention to Hainan nuclear power project. Hainan province also paid more attention to the project.
