Qinshan Nuclear Power Phase III Project is China's first commercial nuclear power station with two heavy water reactors, one of the national key projects during the 9th Five-year Program, and also is by far the largest project cooperated by China and Canada. It adopts Canadian mature nuclear power technology of Candu-6 heavy water reactor. The total capacity installed is 2x728MWe. Its design life is 40 years. The average annual design capacity factor is 85%. The total construction cost of the Project is US$2.88 billion.
Third Qinshan Nuclear Power Company Limited (hereafter referred to as TQNPC) as the Owner of the Qinshan Phase III nuclear Power Project. It was co-invested and organized by China National Nuclear Corporation, China Electric Power Group Corporation East China Branch, Zhejiang Provincial Electric Power Corporation, Zhejiang Provincial Electric Power Development Corporation, Shenergy(Group) Company Limited and Jiangsu International Trust & Investment Corporation.It is administrated by its General Manager with overall responsibility under the leadership of its Board of Directors.
The project was launched on Jun. 8th, 1998. It’s Unit 1 was connected to the grid on Nov. 19th, 2002, and was put into commercial operation on Dec. 31st , 2002 with 43 days ahead of schedule. The Unit 2 came into commercial operation on Jul. 24th, 2003, 112 days earlier than regulated in the main contract signed by China and Canada, which was the shortest period of its kind in the world, and many constructing and commissioning records are also the best ones among the international nuclear power stations with heavy water reactors. The company saved 10% of the planned investment during the construction of the project. This project is the successful practice of fulfilling the international standards in the construction and management of nuclear power projects.
